Applied Trust Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Presents at HCCA Mountain Regional Annual Conference
BOULDER, Colo. – [November 16, 2009] – Applied Trust Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Trent R. Hein presented at the Health Care Compliance Association’s (HCCA) Mountain Regional Annual Conference, held October 22, 2009, at the Marriott Denver Tech Center in Denver.
Hein’s presentation, given with Michael Roach, a partner at Chicago-based Meade & Roach, was titled “The New HIPAA: And You Thought the Economic Stimulus Package Was All About the Economy.”
“It was great to have the opportunity to present at this important event for the healthcare industry,” noted Hein. “The recent changes to HIPAA are just one example of how the healthcare arena is constantly evolving on many levels, and HCCA’s annual Rocky Mountain Conference provides a meaningful forum for area healthcare professionals to discuss current trends and issues.”
The mission of HCCA is to champion ethical practice and compliance standards and to provide the necessary resources for ethics and compliance professionals and others who share these principles. The organization is headquartered in Minneapolis and has more than 6,100 members, with more than 1,900 individuals certified in health care compliance.
Hein’s presentation discussed highlights of amendments to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) made by the HITECH Act, including regulations and guidance that has already been issued, as well as practical steps compliance officers and privacy officers should be taking in response to the changes. Other topics covered included Red Flag Rules and identity theft, physician-provider arrangements, Medicare/Medicaid issues, and recent developments and enforcement trends in compliance.
Hein also presented at last year’s HCCA conference in Denver.
