Trent R. Hein is co-founder and co-CEO of AppliedTrust, which he launched in 2001 with Ned McClain. In 2015, AppliedTrust was acquired by ViaWest (a Shaw Communications [NYSE:SJR] Company).
Trent is best known as co-author of the best-selling Unix System Administration Handbook and Linux Administration Handbook. With a more than 25-year history, Unix System Administration Handbook has been translated into at least 16 languages and is recognized around the world as the "bible" of Unix system administration. Trent has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the USENIX Association for his work as a developer with the University of California at Berkeley's Computer Systems Research Group (CSRG). Previously, he was co-founder and CTO of XOR, Inc., which grew to annual revenue in excess of $50 million with more than 550 employees nationwide.
Trent is always an avid promoter of the Boulder lifestyle and loves to hike, ski, fly fish, and camp. When he’s not outdoors or in front of a keyboard, he also enjoys cooking, wine, bluegrass, and hobby electronics/home automation projects.
